Auricular Reconstruction in Microtia Patients: A Single Institution Experience

Background and Objectives Microtia is a congenital deformity where the pinna middle ear structures are underdeveloped. Auricular reconstruction in microtia one of most difficult surgeries otolaryngology due to complex three-dimensional structure auricle. This study investigated post-operative results total auricular performed by otologic surgeons single institution.Subjects Method We analyzed data from 27 patients who underwent our institution 2011 2019. The were evaluated terms shape auricle, symmetry ear, degree auriculocephalic sulcus stricture. type frequency complications associated with also evaluated.Results Of 24 patients, auricle was good 11 (40.7%), moderate poor 5 (18.6%) patients. size symmetric (88.9%) asymmetric 3 (11.1%) stricture partial 12 (44.4%), severe 4 (14.8%) Postoperative included skin necrosis, suture material exposure, wound infection cartilage deformation.Conclusion Total sophisticated operation utilizing either autologous rib or artificial implant material. Considering that often accompanied canal stenosis hearing impairment, otolaryngologists should be more interested field reconstruction.
